The Reine de Naples collection was launched in 2002 as a line exclusively for ladies. It is a tribute to the first watch designed by Abraham-Louis Breguet in 1810 for Caroline Murat, the queen of Naples. The collection draws inspiration from descriptions of the historic timepiece (the original watch has never been found), according to which it had a delicate ovoid shape. The collection, which has become a best-seller for Breguet, is also noteworthy for its movement. Unlike many brands, which tend to keep their mechanical movements for men’s watches, Breguet also equips its women’s timepieces with a mechanical heart. The internationally successful Reine de Naples collection is regularly updated with new references, embellished with gemstones, mother-of-pearl and precious metals. Here’s a brief overview of the 2017 harvest.

Reine de Naples Princesse 8965
Breguet now offers the Reine de Naples Princesse in a precious version set with 83 brilliant-cut diamonds around the bezel and on the bracelet lug, with an inverted diamond sparkling on the crown. Enclosed in its 43 x 34.95 mm rose gold case, the dial sports a geometric design in hand-guilloché white mother-of-pearl, its two distinct parts worked in a different manner, creating an impression of depth. The iconic flaring Roman numerals of the Princesse model are featured at 6 and 12 o’clock. The watch is driven by the calibre 591C, an automatic manufacture movement with silicon pallet fork and a silicon Breguet balance spring. The Reine de Naples Princesse is available on either a leather strap or a rose gold bracelet set with 104 diamonds, with a medallion buckle.

Reine de Naples Mini 8928
The new Reine de Naples Mini variations, which come in a case measuring just 33 x 24.95 mm, are sure to delight women with dainty wrists. In addition to the reduced diameter, this elegant timepiece is notable for its strong aesthetic, dictated by a dial in natural white mother-of-pearl, “ball-type” lug (paved with diamonds on the 2017 models) and winding crown at 4 o’clock, set with a briolette diamond. The Reine de Naples Mini has the distinctive off-centre dial at 6 o’clock, surrounded by generously-sized graphic Arabic numerals designed to complement the unique case shape. The watch is equipped with the self-winding 586/1 calibre with silicon balance spring. The model comes in either pink or white gold, with a black satin strap or chain bracelet. Women who prefer white gold also have the option of pink-edged numerals and a matching pink leather strap.

Reine de Naples 8918
The Reine de Naples 8918 marries soft pink gold with the warm tints of Tahitian mother-of-pearl. The off-centre dial at 6 o’clock in natural white guilloché mother-of-pearl is highlighted with a mesmerising pear-cut diamond. The hours and minutes are indicated by the familiar Breguet numerals and open-tipped hands. The watch is driven by a self-winding mechanical movement with a 45-hour power reserve, and is fitted with a satin-finished midnight-blue leather bracelet or a chain bracelet.
