WorldTempus and the Great Magazine of Timepieces (GMT) are offering a new service to their readers. Each issue of GMT magazine can now be downloaded in its entirety from our online shop, at a discount from the paper version. Connoisseurs of luxury watch brands will find in-depth articles interspersed with reviews of new watches, watch industry news and a surprisingly extensive multi-brand portfolio.

Issue 52 of GMT takes racing cars as its theme – a rich source of inspiration for the watch industry – and looks at the symbiotic relationship between the two worlds. The topics covered by the articles, however, remain as varied as ever. In pole position, photographer Denis Hayoun offers a unique perspective of eight different mechanical watches, setting them against a stylised backdrop conjured out of Maseratis, while specialist reporter David Chokron looks at the current status of supercars and how they inspire watch brands. TAG Heuer, a regular of the motor racing scene, has its Autavia analysed by architect Axel Leuzinger, who compares it to the Mercury Theatre in Barvikha, near Moscow. GMT also hears from captains of the watch industry, who bring unique insights to their own brands and the market as a whole. Christian Lattmann, Jaquet Droz CEO, informs us: “We are experiencing a level of competition in the watch industry that leaves no room for error.” His counterpart at Omega, Raynald Aeschlimann, notes: “The more technology advances, the greater the attraction of traditional products and craftsmanship.”

In this issue, GMT, a constant presence in the haute horlogerie sector, also asked watchmaker Christophe Persoz to devote a test bench to Vacheron Constantin’s Overseas Chronograph, and David Chokron was invited to take a look at Patek Philippe’s Advanced Research, in particular the new balance spring and time zone system of the Aquanaut Travel Time 5650, which we first saw at Baselworld 2017. In parallel, GMT’s Atmosphere column explains, with the help of exclusive photos, why Urban Jürgensen’s new premises represent far more than just a company headquarters. And, last but by no means least, our cover story focuses on the Octo Finissimo Automatique, which has earned Bulgari its third world record since 2013, this time for the world’s thinnest automatic watch. GMT and WorldTempus have commissioned a one-of-a-kind version..
