Four new Epic X chronograph models from Jacob & Co. cannot fail to stand out thanks to their 47mm diameter cases with aesthetics that will appeal to a wide range of tastes, from the all-black “stealth” look to the white and gold tones that are perfect for the beach. The different looks are achieved with different colour combinations of titanium, rose gold and ceramic.
The new Epic X chronographs are powered by the Jacob & Co. JCAA05 skeletonised self-winding chronograph movement. This high-end chronograph calibre is equipped with a column-wheel to control the chronograph functions. The elapsed seconds are read off the central red chronograph seconds hand once the chronograph has been activated by pushing the red rubber pusher at 2 o’clock. As a practical additional function, the Epic X chronograph has a rotating inner flange that can be controlled by a separate crown in the 10 o’clock position (also in red rubber), to set a countdown timer. The movement has a power reserve of 48 hours and a high-end finish that can be admired through a transparent sapphire crystal case back.
The “X” in the Epic X name comes from the design element formed by the lugs and vertical elements on the dial. The colour combinations of this X differentiate the new models: two in rose gold with a white ceramic bezel and a choice of red or black for the rotating inner flange and chronograph counters; one in grade 5 titanium with a red interior flange and counters to match the red rubber pushers; finally one all-black model with DLC-coated titanium, a black ceramic bezel and contrasting red counters and pushers.
A screw-in crown helps to ensure water resistance to 200 metres and the rubber elements, including a natural rubber strap, make for a timepiece that is readily equipped for sports use. Nevertheless, there is still a subtle but unmistakable reminder of Jacob & Co.’s jewellery heritage with a distinctive dial base in red mineral crystal.
