Two ‘decimas’, 51 titles on clay, 71 victories overall. No tennis player has ever before achieved ten titles in each of two tournaments. By winning the 110th edition of the Monte-Carlo Masters and the 71st Barcelona Open, Rafael Nadal returns to the top five, a favourable omen as Roland-Garros draws near.

On 23 April 2017, Rafa clinched a tenth victory on his preferred surface and favourite court. Brilliantly defeating Albert Ramos-Vinolas of Spain (6-1, 6-3) in the finals of the Monte-Carlo Masters. He repeated this feat just one week later, to claim top honours in the Barcelona Open, overcoming the Austrian Dominic Thiem in two sets (6-4, 6-1). This 71st title puts him just behind Roger Federer, currently the active player with the greatest number of wins to his credit.

With 51 titles on clay, Rafael Nadal remains undisputed master of the red dust. Players rivals, who still has the Masters 1000 tournaments in Madrid and Rome on clay ahead of him, fear him all the more, given his formidable performance so far this season. Roland Garros is also another tournament, a special one for the Spaniard, where he could win a 10th title again…
