Longines presented its whole innovative range of timekeeping services in Hoppegarten racecourse in Berlin and launched the new second screen application. The Swiss watch brand has been committed to equestrian sports since 1878, when it produced a chronograph engraved with a jockey and his mount, allowing its user to time to the second. Since then, the brand has been more and more involved in equestrian sports, establishing partnerships with horse racing events and race courses around the world. In the same time, Longines has been developing its timekeeping services to provide more and more accuracy.

In line with its historical passion for horses and long term expertise in timekeeping, Longines is proud to propose a whole range of timekeeping and tracking services, notably in the field of horse racing. The Swiss watch brand is the only one able to provide a complete offer of ultra-precise timekeeping, including the latest generation photo-finish system, the game-changing Longines Positioning System as well as the Longines GNSS and the new application for smartphones and tablets.

Used for the first time in Europe, in Berlin at Hoppegarten Racecourse, last summer, the Longines Positioning System provides instant data on the exact position of horses during a race, their ranking, the distance between horses and their speed. This pioneering development in thoroughbred racing is the most precise horse racing tracking system in the world with accuracy down to 5 centimeters and up to 1000 measurements per second.

Providing data in real time, the Longines Positioning System improves the experience for racing spectators and TV viewers as well as the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities, national federations, hippodromes, owners, trainers, jockeys, and all horse racing enthusiasts. A lighter technology using GPS satellites instead of LPS beacons is also available. It is called Longines GNSS.

During the demonstration day, Longines also unveiled the innovative second screen application. It provides a live experience of horse races and real-time accuracy, as it produces detailed statistics about horses, such as average speed or intermediate time to smartphone and tablet users. This new application also allows the users to see the races on replay, providing additional data, essential to a younger audience, used to receive information anytime and anywhere.
