Since 1846, when naval commanders and merchant captains the world over came looking for Ulysse Nardin’s marine and pocket chronometers, the company has been building on his winning approach of timekeeping innovation and precision. These mechanical timepieces provide a perpetual source of inspiration, both for collectors and for the watchmakers at the Swiss manufacture.

Today, the release of the Marine 1846 timepiece celebrates this illustrious history with resolutely modern aplomb. Based on the legendary 1996 timepiece, first introduced for the 150th anniversary of the brand (he Marine Chronometer 1846 with the revolutionary “Perpetual Ludwig” perpetual calendar complication named after its inventor Dr. Ludwig Oechslin), this Marine 1846 updates it with silicium technology and a Grand Feu enamel dial.

The self-winding UN-118 Chronometer movement is entirely designed and produced in-house by the Swiss watchmaker, and is completed by a 60-hour power reserve, and a forward and backward quick-set date.

Like its predecessor, its vintage design, in a slightly larger 41 mm case bears the classic traits of the Marine collection: Roman numerals, a fluted bezel and excellent water resistance.

On the enamel dial, the small seconds, date and power reserve indicator are joined by the historic marine chronometer hands and logo. A final gesture to the past is found on the case-back, where the gold medals won by historic Ulysse Nardin timepieces are listed.
